Corporate Brochure Design: Structure, Format and Print Checklist

Corporate brochure design is often treated as pure visual work: pick a few attractive photos, lay out the text, send it to the printer. The brochure comes back beautiful, and the sales team still will not carry it. The reason is simple: three pages in, the reader has not seen anything they care about. A brochure is printed sales material, and the visuals serve the order of information.

    1. Define the Purpose Before the Layout

The first step in corporate brochure design is not opening the design software. It is deciding who reads the brochure and when it is handed over.

    TypeMain readerContent spinePages
Image brochureSenior clients, associationsStrength, history, qualifications16–32
Product brochureBuyers and technical evaluatorsSpecifications, models, applications24–48
    Partner brochureDistributorsPolicy, support, regional cases12–20

Combining all three into one book usually means none of them is convincing. Split them when budget allows; when it does not, start with the product brochure, which is used most often.

    2. Order Content by the Reader's Questions

The page sequence should follow the question sequence: who are you, what can you do, how well have you done it, why should I believe you, how do I reach you. Map these five questions to five sections and the flow takes care of itself.

    • Opening spread sets the tone. One sentence on what the company does and who it serves, with a real photograph that carries information.
    • Capability section proves delivery. Equipment, capacity, process and inspection say more than adjectives.
    • Case section provides evidence. Describe by industry and requirement; do not name specific clients.
    • Closing spread lands on contact. Phone, website and address on one page.

    3. Format and Finish Drive the Cost

Differences in company brochure layout quotes come mostly from format, page count, paper and finishing, not from the design fee itself.

Above forty pages, sewn perfect binding is worth the extra cost, otherwise heavy use will loosen the pages. Confirm this before printing rather than after.

    4. Pre-Press Checklist

Brochure projects often fail on small details. Confirm these before handing over files.

    1. Are images at 300dpi, and were RGB files converted properly?
    2. Is there a 3mm bleed, with key text at least 5mm from the trim line?
    3. Is black text set as single black to avoid blurry four-colour registration?
    4. Do QR codes scan, and do the links resolve?
    5. Do contact details and qualification numbers match official records?

    5. Design the Digital Version Too

Print runs are usually limited, so the digital version does most of the distribution work. Export a landscape PDF sized for mobile reading, kept under ten pages, and place it on the website download area and in email signatures. Print handles face-to-face handovers; the PDF handles remote contact. Content can be shared, but the layout should be designed separately.

    6. FAQ

How long does corporate brochure design take?

Three to five weeks for design and revisions once content is ready, plus about a week for printing. Content preparation usually takes longer than design.

What if we have no professional photography?

Shoot the core scenes first: plant, equipment, inspection, team. Stock images can bridge gaps, but the opening and case pages should use real scenes.

How often should a brochure be updated?

Review every two years. Update sooner when the product line or qualifications change significantly, so the sales team is not carrying outdated information.

Can design and printing be handled by different vendors?

Yes, but confirm colour management and file requirements with the printer in advance. Designing to the printer's specification reduces rework.
