Checking an Online Promotion Vendor: A Scoring Table

Talking to three vendors at once makes it easy to be steered: one claims full channel coverage, one claims many cases, one claims a low price. What is missing is not information but a shared yardstick. Write the need as one sentence, then score against a fixed weighted table.

    1. Compress the Need Into One Sentence

"We want manufacturing buyers in East China to see us when searching five product terms within six months, and to receive at least ten qualified enquiries a month."

That sentence holds four elements: timeframe, region, audience, and a checkable result. Without it, each vendor quotes against its own reading, and the quotes describe very different amounts of work.

    2. Five Weighted Factors

Score 1 to 5 per factor and rank the weighted total. The value of the table is turning "this one feels more professional" into a specific question.

    3. Three Quote Structures

Modular pricing splits content, paid media and technical work, with unit prices for additions. It makes scaling predictable and shows where the money goes.

Retainer pricing charges person-months, which suits long-term embedded support.

Lump-sum pricing states a total and a service name. It is not disqualifying, but demand the deliverable list in writing or delivery will shrink.

People often ask why quotes for a professional promotion agency differ by a factor of three. The answer usually sits in these three structures — they are pricing different things.

    4. Setting a Trial Order

Before signing, run one month scoped to a single product line and a single channel. Judge on three things: deliverables on time, data that can be recalculated, and response within the agreed window.

Watch one detail during the trial: do they proactively point out problems on your site or in your content? A team that only executes never adds judgement over a long engagement.

Full-network promotion vendors emphasise coverage. Ask the follow-up: who adapts content per channel? Coverage without adaptation spreads the budget thin.

    5. Four Contract Points

Whether accounts and assets transfer at the end; which metrics the monthly report contains and whether definitions are fixed; the ceiling on revisions and additions; and the handover period plus data delivery format on termination.

    6. FAQ

One quote is double another — is the expensive one wrong? Not necessarily. Compare structures: modular quotes run higher than lump sums but do not add surprise charges.

No case in our industry? Judge the method. If they can explain audience mapping and keyword layering, a trial is reasonable.

Can we buy media only, without content? Yes, but landing pages and creative decide efficiency; weak content flattens returns quickly.
