Baijiu Marketing Plan: Split Channels by Price Band

Ask for a baijiu marketing plan and you get a list of nouns: group buying, banquets, liquor stores, livestreams, tasting events. The nouns are fine. The problem is that they are not interchangeable. A plan for a sub-100-yuan bottle collapses when applied to a 1,000-yuan product.

    1. Price Band Decides Strategy

Below 100 yuan and above 500 yuan are different businesses. The first competes on distribution and turnover, with a decision made at the shelf in seconds. The second competes on relationships and occasions, with a cycle measured in months.

So define three sentences before discussing channels: which price band, which buyer, which occasion opens the bottle. Without them, channel selection is guesswork.

    2. Four Channels and Their Jobs

These are sequential, not parallel. New brands usually win first trial in restaurants, then expand to retail, then approach corporate buyers once repeat data exists. Reverse the order and stock sits in warehouses.

    3. Two Predictable Scenarios

Banquets are one of the few occasions where volume can be estimated in advance. Table count, bottles per table and price range are known before the event, so spend can be calculated. Work both ends: venue and wedding planner recommendations, plus referrals from past customers.

Group buying runs on trust inside a relationship chain. Tastings are the usual vehicle; what matters is whether attendees belong to one circle and can decide.

    4. Advertising Compliance

Alcohol is a regulated category. Claims about health effects, hints that drinking is beneficial, content encouraging excessive drinking, and imagery involving minors are all off limits. Creative work has to sit inside those limits.

Price claims need a factual basis; "limited-time offer" requires a real reference price. Gift-with-purchase structures borrowed from restaurant marketing are usable, but the gift must not be an inducement to drink more.

    5. Regional Playbook

Regional brands rarely need national coverage. Dominating one or two prefecture-level cities is more realistic. Three markers show it is working: bottle-opening rate in restaurants, restock frequency in retail, and referral share from banquets. All three rising means the model holds before expanding.

    6. FAQ

What works for a small distillery?

Restaurants and banquets first, plus local content accounts for word of mouth. Skip national media on a small budget; the maths do not close.

    Should we sell through livestreams?

Yes, but protect the price architecture. If livestream prices stay below retail, terminals stop recommending the brand, and that is hard to reverse.

    Advertising first or terminals first?

Terminals first. Stock on shelf and someone recommending it gives advertising somewhere to land.
